Girl Helps Save Man's Life

A 12-year-old Bucks County girl sprang into action after discovering a man in his 60's unconscious and slumped over.

A young Bucks County girl is being hailed as a hero after she helped save a man’s life.

It happened Wednesday morning on the 1800 block of Brownsville Road in Trevose, Pa.

Bridgette Cinque, 12, and her mother were about to enter a shoe store when she noticed an unconscious man in his 60’s slumped over on a step outside a nearby Laundromat.

"I grabbed my mom’s arm to stop her to see that guy over there who needed help,” said Bridgette.

"I said ‘okay, let me get you into the store,’” said Bridgette’s mother Michelle Cinque. "She said ‘no mommy he needs help now!’ She’s like ‘do something!’”

Bridgette, who had recently earned the leadership cadet badge in Girl Scouts, insisted that her mother call 9-11.

"He might’ve had a family,” said Bridgette. "If he died his family might’ve missed him. So he like, needed help too.”

Emergency crew members from the Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad say they found the man unresponsive and barely breathing when they arrived. They rushed him to St. Mary’s Medical Center where he was revived a short time later.

While police say he had alcohol in his system medics also believe he had a serious underlying medical condition.

"If this young lady hadn’t recognized and been as persistent as she was the outcome could’ve been much worse, possibly fatal,” said Jason Dowd of the Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad.

Paramedics believe the man lay at the busy intersection for several hours in the cold and was suffering from hypothermia.

"I’m proud that my daughter stood up to do something and saved this man,” said Michelle. "I’m kind of saddened by the general public that so many people didn’t do anything.”
