Voice: Jan Barker, CEO of Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, Kochville Township
For the first time in nearly a decade, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) is bidding out the manufacture of Girl Scout uniforms. Parents, members and volunteers have urged GSUSA to make sure the iconic Girl Scout uniform would continue to be made in the United States.
GSUSA now requires that Girl Scout uniforms be manufactured in the United States. This requirement was added to the original request for proposal. As always, GSUSA continues to require that potential vendors adhere to strict guidelines regarding worker age, treatment and safety.
Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan wants to assure our thousands of Girl Scout supporters that Girl Scout uniforms will, indeed, continue to be made in the United States.
On a related note, cookies sold by Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan girls are baked by Little Brownie Bakers, a subsidiary of Kellogg Co., which is headquartered in Battle Creek. The Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan cookie sale supports our state’s economy.
