Davia Temin to Open 'Healthy Media for Youth Summit' at US Capitol - Featured Speakers Include Academy Award-Winning Actress Geena Davis, Emmy Award Winner Alfre Woodard, and Supermodel Emme

Co-sponsored by Girl Scouts of the USA, The National Association of Broadcasters, The National Cable & Telecommunications Association, and The Creative Coalition

WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- "The media not only helps shape what we think about girls, but what girls think about themselves," says Davia Temin, First Vice Chair of the Board of Girl Scouts of the USA and a leading reputation and crisis expert. Ms. Temin will kick off the "Healthy Media for Youth Summit" to be held at the Capitol Building in Washington, DC tomorrow, October 6 – a symposium exploring the impact of the media on youth, and especially girls', self image.

Co-sponsored by Girl Scouts of the USA, The National Association of Broadcasters, The National Cable & Telecommunications Association, and The Creative Coalition, the Summit brings together representatives from the media and entertainment industries, including women and men working both behind and in front of the camera. Editors, on-air talent, producers, and executives will all be in attendance. The Summit's mission is to determine how to promote healthy and positive images of women and girls through industry best practices, media literacy programs, career exploration opportunities for girls, public awareness campaigns, and other activities.

"It is wonderful that so many important representatives of the media will be there to discuss healthy images of girls," says Ms. Temin. "As a thought leader and a voice for all girls, we at Girl Scouts believe it is our mission to address those issues that directly and disproportionately affect girls. One of those issues is media image, and its affect on girls' self-esteem."

Actresses Geena Davis will be the luncheon Keynote Speaker, and Alfre Woodard will be a closing speaker. Other featured speakers include FCC Commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker; Kyle McSlarrow, CEO of The National Cable & Telecommunications Association; Gordon Smith, CEO of The National Association of Broadcasters; Robin Bronk, CEO of The Creative Coalition, who will unveil a new PSA produced by TCC; supermodel Emme; Suzanne Malveaux, CNN White House correspondent; and Girl Scouts of the USA's Laurie Westley, Senior Vice President, Public Policy, Advocacy and the Research Institute.

Ms. Temin is founder and CEO of Temin and Company, which advises Fortune 100 companies and their leadership teams on reputation and crisis management, marketing strategy, leadership communications, and media relations. She is also Chair of the Board of Video Volunteers, and serves on the advisory boards of the Knight-Bagehot Fellowship at Columbia Journalism School and ProPublica, and on Harvard Kennedy School's Women's Leadership Board.
